Meet children's author Ruth Eastham, write a secret diary and try breaking a code!
Do you have an avid reader or a budding author in the family? Have you ever wondered how books are written? Join us for a workshop with children’s author Ruth Eastham based around her novel, The Messenger Bird. Pre-booking is essential.
In this codebreaking thriller, Nathan’s dad has been arrested for breaking the Official Secrets Act, and to prove his innocence Nathan must embark on a dangerous mission, following intriguing secret clues which lead him to Bletchley Park …
Ruth will talk about the inspirations behind her book; a real-life World War II mystery; pigeons in peril; fascinating facts about the Enigma machine and why the Enigma code was thought to be unbreakable.
Participants can choose to book one of two workshops: either 10.00-12.30 or 14.00-16.30. Particularly aimed at eight to fourteen year olds accompanied by adults, sessions last two and a half hours and include a talk by the author with top tips on writing; a code-cracking game and creative writing challenge; and a Q & A session.
Ruth will be available for book signing from 13.15 to 13.45 in the Bletchley Park shop.
